Stop Frame Animation

I plan on using stop frame animation (also known as stop motion) in my music video. My music video is based around a toy factory and toys that come alive over a night. At first I wanted to achieve this effect by taking lots of pictures of the toys every movement and it would look like it was moving smoothly. Then I watched the music video for Her Morning Elegance by Oren Lavie which uses stop frame animation and in this video the cuts aren't particularly smooth. I think this creates a good effect and would fit in really well with my video.

Her Morning Elegance - Oren Lavie
(directed by Oren Lavie, Yuval and Merav Nathan)

I have tried to achieve this effect by taking pictures of a robot walking across the floor. I used a digital camera for this which is positioned in the same place throughout the following clip.

Tim Burton is an example of a stop motion artists. He uses stop motion in his films and most of his films are animated. The first short film that he made was called 'Vincent' and this was in stop motion, it was only six minutes long but with the budget that he was given to produce this it was worth it.
One of his most recognised films is 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' which was also in stop motion, it took three years to produce as it was a full length film and stop motion takes up a lot of time to get it to be perfect.
'Mars Attacks!' was another classic film, which Tim Burton directed, but because of the budget it wasn't possible to make it look stop motion. The computer animation of the aliens was made to resemble stop motion.
